Browser Settings Help

To check you Internet Options, click on "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", then click on the Internet Icon (sometimes called "Internet" or "Internet Options"). Here you can customize your settings. Important: Make sure that under "Connections", your dialer is set to "Always dial my default connection". Do not turn on any Proxy Servers.




"I am getting 'Server Not Found' messages."

What this usually means is that the server you are trying to reach is not responding. You need to make sure that you are online. Do this by opening "My Computer" then "Dial-Up Networking", then click on the Internet Adventure Icon. Click on "Connect", if it does not come up with the "Connected at xxx KB/s" window. If you are connected and still get this error, you might want to use the Tracert Tool to see where the problem lies.




"I am getting 'Connection with the server could not be established' messages."

What this usually means is that the server you are trying to reach is not responding. You need to make sure that you are online. "How do I setup My Homepage?"

Once you have written your home page and are ready to get it online, either come into our computer store, or e-mail us a request for your home page. Let us know whether you are looking for MS Frontpage Extensions. We will set it up for you. This normally take about one to two working days. Regular FTP Setup Help

Our FTP site is called: FTP.elkgrove.net In order to write to your directory, you will need to be dialed in to our service. We do not allow write access from outside our router. We recommend that you use Cute FTP for tranferring files. (See below.)

Download Instructions for Cute FTP:

    Save to disk
    Select hard drive
    Create new folder
    Name new folder: c-ftp
    Open new folder
    Click on save
    Click OK when finished downloading
    Close out of Internet
    From desktop, double click on "My Computer"
    Open hard drive
    Find c-ftp folder and open
    Double click on 32cftp17.exe
    Follow instructions
    When prompted, enter your e-mail address
    Click OK, to add shortcut to start menu


Setup Instructions for Cute FTP:

    Click on "Start" button, "Programs", "Cute FTP"
    Agree
    Click once on "Personal FTP"
    Click on "Add Site" and enter only the following information:

      Under "Site Label", enter your login name
      In "Host Address", enter ftp.elkgrove.net
      In "Initial Remote Directory", put in the Initial Remote given
      In "Initial Local directory", put in the directory from your computer where your site information is located
      Login Type is: anonymous
      Leave "User Id" & "Password" blank.
      Click on OK
      Highlight your name
      Click on "Connect"
      Click OK
      Find and click on the files you wish to upload and drag them to the right side of window divider
      Your URL or Site address is: www.elkgrove.net/your_site_name
      Your first htm should be called default.htm
