Types Of Insurance Companies
Basically there are three types of insurance companies that
market coverage to the public.
Type One: Direct Mail/Phone Company.   There are
no resident agents, but they have customer service
representatives that answer your questions and will sell
you insurance through the mail.   The customer service
rep's are not licensed agents, and have no immediate binding
authority.
Type Two: Captive Companies.   Their agents can
only sell insurance for one company.   They are
representing the company and not the insured.   If you
are unhappy or dissatisfied, the agent cannot market your
account with another company.
Type Three: Independent Agency Company.   They
market their products through independent agents who have
contracts with many companies.   The Independent agency
can shop your coverage with various companies, to obtain the
most comprehensive quality product and the most competitive
price to fit your insurance needs.
Last year we placed insurance for our customers with
63 different companies, in Auto - Home - Business - Bonds,
etc.
